Personal Insurance

Condo coverage that works with your HOA policy

Your homeowners association's master policy covers some of the building, but usually not everything inside your walls, your belongings or your personal liability. An HO-6 condo policy is built to fill those gaps.

Online quotes for home, auto and other personal coverage are prepared through the Bolt quoting platform. Some coverage and carrier options are quoted by phone. Selecting "Start a Personal Lines Quote" takes you to a third-party website that has its own privacy policy and terms. A quote is not a binder or a guarantee of coverage.

We will look at what your HOA's master policy covers so your condo policy picks up where it leaves off.

What condo insurance can cover

Walls-in / building property

Interior finishes, fixtures, cabinets, flooring and improvements you are responsible for under your HOA documents.

Personal property

Your furniture, electronics, clothing and other belongings.

Loss assessment

Helps pay your share of a special assessment the HOA levies after a covered loss to common areas.

Liability & loss of use

Personal liability protection and additional living expenses after a covered loss.

Things to consider

  • Ask your HOA for the master policy declarations to see whether it is 'bare walls' or 'all-in'.
  • Check the master policy deductible. Loss assessment coverage can help with your share.
  • Water damage from neighboring units is a common condo claim. Review how it is handled.

This is a general description, not a policy. Coverage, limits and exclusions vary by insurer and are governed by the policy actually issued.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between HO-6 and homeowners insurance?

An HO-6 policy is designed for units where an association insures the building structure. A homeowners policy covers the entire structure you own.

Does my HOA require condo insurance?

Many HOAs do. Your CC&Rs will say. Lenders may also require it.
